Leased line customers required to report WiFi usage to their ISPs

Today we received an email from Tata Communications (VSNL), our leased line provider. The govt has asked all their (ISPs in general) customers to get it in writing from their customers about the WiFi usage. The govt, especially under the new Home Minister Chidambaram has been taking some steps to counter terrorism.

We can never imagine this happening in India 🙁 Rhode Island in US has started “reporting” their cash flow on a daily basis for their citizens to see on Twitter.

US online Ad spend in 2009 to grow by 4.5% over 2008

According to adWeek/eMarketer the online Ad spend in US will grow to $24.5 billion in 2009. Earlier it was projected to reach $25.7 billion.

Marketers spend more on Internet ads, while they spend less on advertising placed in other media, such as newspapers, radio and magazines. These spending shifts predate the recession, but the current economic forces both reinforce the new advertising models and make them more permanent.

India to get 11-digit mobile numbers in 2010

In 2003, the Department of Telecom (DoT) in India had projected the ten-digit mobile numbers would be meet the needs for 30 long years. As of Feb 2009 India registered a user base of 375.74 million wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA, WLL(F)).

Wikia Search Shut

Wikia SearchAccording to Jimmy Wales blog, Wikia Search has shut on March 31, 2009. Wikia had raised funds from well known personalities and it was being promoted as ‘open source search’. It did not take off 🙁
