Upscale student hostels & PGs – a big untapped opportunity in India

In India May-June can be horrific months for parents of children who are seeking admissions to professional courses. In my state of Karnataka we had a re-exam for one subject (2nd PUC / XIIth) as  paper had leaked. After that you had a minimum of two exams to attend – CET and ComedK (all other exams are for minority number of students). By the time our children finish these exams they are exhausted.

Both democratic and authoritative countries send takedown requests to Google

The most common gateway to information on the internet namely Google is on the receiving end from various governments – the ones democratically or otherwise elected. When it comes to not taking criticism most governments behave the same. Google has released new data for its Transparency Report, which provides details of government requests to takedown content across the company’s websites and services.

Mobile platform in India: Android and Facebook are the undisputed leaders

Nielsen’s report “Smart and Social: Android Phones in India” highlights the usage of smartphones in India. The two dominant operating systems on the mobile are Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS. For the past one year Android has grown well in India, the main reason being ‘affordable’ Android mobile phones (sub Rs 10,000 / $200) are available.
