On Karnataka Rajyotsava (Nov 1), a State holiday, we decided to take take a ride on the recently inaugurated Bangalore Metro. It is heartening to see the euphoria of Bangaloreans, most newspapers have been carrying the photos of Bangaloreans with wide smiles at the Metro station. Few have been celebrating their birthdays & wedding anniversaries in the train (now this is stretching too much).

Bangalore Metro was supposed to have been inaugurated today, which is an auspicious day in Karnataka – Ugadi. I live very close to the upcoming Metro line, it didn’t look ready for inauguration by any stretch of imagination.

Long weekends are always good & bad news for me. Bangalore roads are wonderful to drive during long weekends. It is safe to assume a huge percentage of population goes out of Bangalore during holidays – mainly to Tamil Nadu, Andhra (united Andhra!), Kerala.

We recently received our first traffic violation notice from Bangalore Traffic Police Department. The notice was printed neatly in a professional manner, which is rare for any govt notice.

While the Goverment departments are making some progress on the internet (publishing content, forms, e-filing of taxes) etc they still have a long way to go.

Bangalore has been known as the IT capital of India for a long time. Successive governments have shown their dis-interest in the internet very consistently.

National Anthem in Bangalore theatres

A while ago I had read about movie theatres in India being required to play the National Anthem before the show. As a child growing up I remember it being played “after” the show and doors were being opened only after the completion of the anthem (rightfully so).

Our politicians across all parties are united when it comes to diverting the attention of their citizens. Dharam Singh initiated the change of name of 12 cities and finally it got approved during HDK‘s tenure. Why has the government unnecessarily fiddled around something which was going on smoothly? I guess because they are the government!

Lido in its new avatar is back!

For many of us Lido was one of the favorite theaters for English movies. It had a nice garden around it, ample parking space. I still recall seeing Crazy Boys, Jaws, Airport series at Lido. Few years ago I saw a board on the gate “Closed for Projector repair” or something like that. I knew it was a lame excuse. We have heard about one not doing their homework because the dog chewed the book, grandma/grandpa died (for the Nth time) but this excuse was a new one! Anyways, surely this Mall+multiplex makes more economic sense than just having a theater.
