Wikia SearchAccording to Jimmy Wales blog, Wikia Search has shut on March 31, 2009. Wikia had raised funds from well known personalities and it was being promoted as ‘open source search’. It did not take off 🙁

It’s official: Google is no God but just human ;-)

Last week we had some panic time at work. Trust me, it wasn’t fun. Few of our oneindia.in channels started being shown as “infected”. If you are a Firefox user you would be shown an warning which said the site was infected with Malware and the reasons too were shown.

Webmaster Tools: Feature Request for Bulk Deletion of URLs

Most webmasters use Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) to submit their URLs to Google. Yahoo had a similar product – Site Explorer and Microsoft too has one. GWT by far is the best and is far ahead of the so called competitors.

Is a rival of Google coming soon?

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales said he is putting the building blocks in place for a community-developed Web search service that would rival search engines such as Google or Yahoo. Wikia, has acquired Grub.org, a pioneering Web crawler that will enable Wikia’s forthcoming search service to scour the Web to index relevant sites. Grub is a revolutionary distributed computing platform, capable of efficiently crawling the web from a large number of diverse client machines and performing any kind of page-level analysis, using otherwise unused bandwidth and compute cycles.
