- Global Population (Dec 2016): 5.5 billion people over 14 years old
- Number of mobile phones (Dec 2016): 5 billion
- Number of smartphones (Dec 2016): 2.5 billion
- SIM penetration is > 100% (number of SIM connections divided by population)
- Smartphones are moving past the PC, heading towards 5+ billion users.
- Smartphone apps are now close to 60% of all time spent in the USA (Facebook has 15-20% of mobile time)
- What can be built on GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon)?
- GAFA have much greater global scale than Wintel (Microsoft + Intel) or IBM ever had
- Machine learning has arrived
- No more mobile-first, it is mobile-only or mobile-native
- Microsoft will move from Mobile First to AI-first
- Everything internet did to media will happen to ecommerce
- Ecommerce as % of US retail: Amazon 2+%, overall US ecommerce 12%
