Boxoffice Opening: 14% of Google+ visitors are from India

Internet companies in India usually complain about the low internet user base we have, or at least we would have wanted a faster growth in the user base. The internet user base in India estimate varies from 60 million to 100 million, depending on whom you ask. For a country with over 1 billion people, it is reasonably safe to say our online user base is small.

Why is that social networking in India makes its presence felt in the global world? Earlier India was not appearing in any statistics, now it prominently appears in the top 5 countries in various surveys (Hurrah!)

India surely is helping social networking sites to increase their valuations.

comScore just released its first look at visitation to Google+ finding that in its first three weeks (June 29, 2011 – July 19, 2011, i.e. 21 days) the site has reached 20 million worldwide visitors. India ranked as the second largest market for Google+ with 2.8 million visitors.

Some important stats,

  • 20 million are the “visitors” to Google+, not necessary registered users
  • Google has over 1 billion visitor base, that makes it easy for them to promote their own products
  • Google+ has grown quickly in the global market. While US leads (5.3m) it currently accounts for 27% of the total worldwide audience.
  • India holds a strong #2 position with 2.8 million visitors. The UK (867,000 visitors), Canada (859,000 visitors) and Germany (706,000 visitors) round out the top five.
  • 37% of Google+ users are beautiful, i.e. females
  • 58% of the total Google+ audience is between the ages of 18-34, with 25-34 year olds representing more than 1/3rd of the total

And if you thought you have almost settled with Google+, hang on, Microsoft wants to launch its own social networking site Tulalip.
