According to eMarketer in 2014, India had 123 million smartphone users. This will grow to 200 million by 2016. India has been struggling to grow its internet penetration for years, it has been just around 10%. The growth of smartphone user base will bring in the much needed boost to the internet eco system.
The mobile penetration in India is one of the highest in the world today. With the popularity of mobile internet increasing the next revolution seems to be in the mobile devices in India.
According to Nielsen’s study on data plans of smartphones users in the world majority (42%) in India prefer to pay by the MB and only 15% opt for unlimited data plan.
These days we don’t talk much about the number of mobile users in India, it has gone above 800m and the growth is slow. The flavor of the season is mobile internet, smartphones, 3G in India.
