Mothers Day in India, Bollywood style

Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers. From Wiki,

The modern Mother’s Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis as a day for each family to honor their mother,[1] and it’s now celebrated on various days in many places around the world.

Mom with me (9.8 lbs!). Where has ALL my hair gone now?

In most countries the Mother’s Day celebration is a recent holiday derived from the Mothering Sunday holiday in the UK. It is celebrated in Australia, Malaysia and United States each year on the second Sunday of May.

Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days throughout the world.

In India, like the US, it is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. Political groups haven’t protested the celebration of Mothers Day, Fathers Day – they react violently on Valentine’s Day.

In every culture, Mother plays the most important role in bringing up kids. But at times I do feel in urban India, children [i.e. grown ups] are slowly drifting away from parents 🙁 We will pay a heavy price for this sin down the road. It would be best we thank our Mothers (and Fathers) on a daily basis instead of on a ‘yearly basis’.

In our Indian movies Moms [Maa] have always played a very important role and who can forget the most memorable dialogue between Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor from Deewar – Mere Paas Maa Hai [I have my Mother with me]. This is one of the most recalled dialogues in Hindi movies.

  • Mahesh......yes and the Bollywood scene....is a cliche coz now all over you see mothers with a vacant look in their eyes as they talk about their sons in the U S or elsewhere. They had def. Supported their children in their quest to conquer the world of intellect, but forgot to instill in them the sense of duty and pride and Joy in the sunset years of their parents. You see many mothers languishing in the widow's refugee homes in the holy cities of Kashi etc. Most apt blocks in India echo hollowly with the lonely heartbeats of Mothers who , await the annual return of their migratory sons and their families........Happy Mothers day indeed!!
