Comics publisher Chandamama release language portals

I haven’t read Chandamama for ages, but I did read them regularly as a kid. They had (and have) some quality stuff. Chandamama is known for the Vikram and Betaal series and other mythological characters. Comics are usually popular with adults, too! Amar Chitra Katha regularly sells a collection of 100+ comics for about Rs 4,000 ($100).

Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle were created by the visionary and master storyteller, Anant Pai

Chandamama was launched in 1947, they released their 60th Anniv special issue with much fanfare [Big B was the Chief Guest].

Geodesic acquired Chandamama in 2007. I believe such acquisitions happen not just for the sake of business but for passion. Entrepreneurs want their childhood favourites to flourish and would love to contribute to that cause.

According to e4m,

Chandamama, the 61-year old children’s magazine, is now going ahead in its cyber avatar. The publication has launched its online portals in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It already has a portal in English and will soon launch websites in Marathi and Oriya languages.

The new management has always maintained that they want to make their presence felt in the digital world. It is good to see that they are going the full way to launch the language versions of their Chandamama portals (Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi have already been released). In recent times, Economic Times and Business Standard launched their Hindi versions on the net.

Such developments give a good boost to the language space on the internet. I hope more and more players join this language bandwagon. The journey will be a multi-flavoured one for sure 🙂
