Analytics these days has become very crucial for every industry. And when it comes to men vs women everybody notices it with great interest. Nielsen’s recent report “Smartphones in India: Web Browsing is for Men, Texts are For Women” has highlighted the smartphone usage of men and women in India. To summarize,
- Men spend 50 percent more time browsing the web on their smartphones than women.
- Women spend 3 hours more on calls every month as compared to men.
- Women spend 4 times the amount of time men spend on Instant Messaging (Chat) applications.
- Men experiment more with apps – they install, on an average, 16 applications in a month compared to just 11 by women

One finding can be surprising or obvious, depending upon who we are – men use maps a lot more than women on their smartphones. I thought men are not known for taking help when it came to directions.
Men install apps more than women, but when it comes to usage women win. Mobile app ideators will be asked to focus a lot more on what women would like on their mobile. I do not think the men ideators are complaining about this additional task.
