During the 3rd week of every month, we get a report card of our traffic performance from ComScore. We know our traffic numbers from Google Analytics but third-party reports are used by advertisers to judge the performance of various sites. Recently ComScore held a webinar “The Rise of India’s Digital Consumer and What it Means for the Future“. The summary of the webinar has been well summarized (or detailed) on Medianama.
The calendar year 2011 is ending in few days and the report cards for various sectors of internet space are being released. In India we should expect report cards twice a year – calendar year (ending December) and financial year (ending March)!
The latest comscore press release “India’s Local News Destinations See Visitors from Outside of the Country Account for a Significant Share of their Global Audience” talks about the traffic the popular Indian sites are getting from outside India (safe to assume most of the users from outside India are NRIs). We at Oneindia.in are excited to see being ranked highly but competition is tight. We are happy to see where we are but not satisfied completely. Internet companies in India usually complain about the low internet user base we have, or at least we would have wanted a faster growth in the user base. The internet user base in India estimate varies from 60 million to 100 million, depending on whom you ask. For a country with over 1 billion people, it is reasonably safe to say our online user base is small.
