89% of mobile users in India carry just one handset

February 23, 2013 Leave a Comment

According to “Maximizing Mobile: Multiple Phone Use is Rising in BRIC Markets” an overwhelming majority (89%) of mobile users in India, just like the US, use just one mobile handset.

  • Brazil has the highest percentage of mobile users with 3+ mobile handsets.
  • People carry their old handsets even after upgrading to smartphones because of not being able to transfer data.
  • Like to keep personal and official calls separate. That works as long as you know which handset is for what purpose, else you can get into deep trouble 😉

In India the usage of dual SIM is on the rise, that could be one reason why many don’t carry 2 handsets. At the time of writing the article the Micromax A116 Canvas HD was making a lot of noise – dual SIM, very good graphics and at a very affordable price.
