India to have second largest online population by 2015

December 20, 2012 by BG Mahesh Leave a Comment

The internet user base is expected to grow from the current 120 million (2011) to 330-370 million by 2015. The year 2015 is really not that far away.

Internet services and devices industry (mobile handsets, tablets etc) has potential to increase its contribution to up to 3.3 per cent to India’s gross domestic product by 2015, a report by McKinsey & Company.

Victory Stand

If India achieves its potential for growth in the number of Internet users and Internet technology related consumption then it could contribute upto 2.8-3.3 per cent to India’s GDP by 2015. The report says “India is on the verge of an Internet boom”.

India can achieve broad-based Internet impact by aiming for digital inclusion of nearly 40 per cent of its population to reach a user base of 500 million by 2015, rather than the likely target of 330-370 million, the report said. This is good news for team Oneindia.in – with such huge user base the need for language services (content & ecommerce) will only increase exponentially.
